Everyone can stop!
Smoking cessation
This number is 15 per cent of the whole population. However, it is not negligible. Two-thirds of smokers start before age 18, and about 66 thousand people die from cancer, with a total number of 212 thousand deaths per year (smokers aged 35 and over, 2011). Smokers who start smoking before the age of 18 are identification smokers; the others are replacement smokers, which corresponds with statistics. Usually, about 95 per cent of smokers are identification smokers. What does this mean? With the first group, which starts smoking before the age of 18, the habit was built on identification with parents or peers. Replacement smokers use this habit, along with other ones, such as coffee, talking on the phone, playing games, etc.
In some cases, the individual can be a replacement and identification smoker. But in most cases, the majority of smokers are treated in six weeks. This is a unique program in which, in the sixth week, you shouldn’t need to smoke any more. Each case has different circumstances, but statistically, this program works effectively on smoking cessation.
It is not common knowledge, but when you don’t smoke, there are benefits for you as a future ex-smoker: blood pressure readjusts to average level; pulse rate adjusts to average level; body temperature of hands and feet increases to regular.
- Eight hours later, the carbon monoxide level dropped to normal, and the oxygen in the blood increased to normal.
- Twenty-four hours later, the chance of a heart attack decreases.
- Forty-eight hours later, the nerve endings start regrowing, and the ability to smell and taste improves.
- Seventy-two hours later, the bronchial tubes relax and lung capacity increases.
- Between two weeks and three months, circulation improves, walking becomes easier, and lung function increases by up to 30 per cent.
- Between one and nine months, coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath decrease, and cilia regrow in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucous, clean the lungs and reduce infections.
From this list, you can see the impact that smoking has on the human body. We could continue this list for up to 10 years, but now it is essential to know that recovery lasts ten years after you stop smoking, so you can imagine how strong an impact smoking has on your health.
For people who cannot quit on their own, smoking is usually satisfying a negative feeling or habit within them. In hypnosis, we can alter this negative feeling into a positive one. Next is a reinforcement to ensure that the behavioural pattern won’t be repeated.
