What preconfigured means

  • The Raspberry Pi hub is prepared before shipping
  • Required software and services are installed and running
  • Zigbee connectivity is enabled via the included USB dongle
  • Once connected to your home network, minor adjustment may be required
  • No coding required

What is included

The essentials for a local home monitoring setup.

Zigbee motion sensorClear room activity signals without relying only on camera analysis.
Indoor cameraContextual awareness for movement, stillness, and local behavior analysis.
Raspberry Pi hubPreconfigured local host for dashboards, services, and device coordination.
Sonoff Zigbee USB dongleIntegrated Zigbee connectivity for sensor pairing and expansion.

Guided first-run included

Support through the initial activation phase.

The first-run guidance focuses on reaching a stable, working setup in the home environment.

  • First power-on of the Raspberry Pi hub
  • Connection to the home network by Ethernet or Wi-Fi
  • Confirmation that the dashboard is accessible locally
  • Pairing and verification of the Zigbee motion sensor
  • Connection check of the indoor camera
  • Final confirmation that events are being received correctly

Hardware profile

Small enough to disappear into the room. Powerful enough for local signals.

CSI camera module

The current setup uses a Raspberry Pi camera detected as an IMX219-style module. It is suitable for floor-level motion, room light, dog presence, and behavior zone tracking.

High corner placement

The camera works best above eye level, angled downward, with a view of the main floor area, door, dog bed, and food/water area.

No cloud camera

The hardware is used as a local sensor, not a video surveillance feed. Frames stay in memory on the Pi and are converted into behavior metrics before network upload.

Privacy architecture

Designed so camera content cannot leave the device.

The system processes camera frames locally on the Raspberry Pi hub. It does not upload images, video, audio, snapshots, or frame arrays. Network requests are outbound JSON posts containing derived numbers such as motion seconds, activity levels, zone time, and behavior flags.

Privacy zones can mask areas before analysis, and payload guards reject media-like data before it reaches the network layer.

Complete function set

Expandable monitoring with local control.

01

Senior wellbeing support

Tracks movement patterns, motion windows, prolonged stillness, light level, night activity, camera online/offline state, and privacy-preserving resident telemetry from the Pi camera.

02

Zigbee motion sensing

Uses a Zigbee motion sensor for clear activity signals and room-level presence events, with expandable sensor support for more rooms later.

03

Dog behavior analysis

Recognizes dog presence, then tracks activity, rest, pacing, door waiting, food/water visits, bed time, position changes, scratching-like motion, and night activity.

04

Shared capture service

One process owns the Pi camera and feeds both analyzers locally, preventing camera conflicts while keeping senior and dog APIs separate.

05

Secure web dashboards

Support Seniors receives senior metrics and events. A separate dog dashboard receives dog behavior metrics with its own token and database.

06

Behavior flags

Flags low activity, restlessness, night activity, possible discomfort, mobility changes, and attention-seeking style patterns for human review.

07

Privacy zones

Mask private frame regions and define meaningful zones such as bed, door, food/water area, and open floor using simple percentage coordinates.

What gets sent

Numbers leave the device. Camera content does not.

Senior metricsmotion seconds, activity intensity, stillness, light, night state, events
Dog metricspresence, active/resting time, movement score, zone visits, behavior flags
Device statuscamera online/offline, timestamps, device ID, local queue state

Questions about SupportSeniors Starter Kit?

Dog behavior signals

Pattern-based prompts for review, not diagnosis.

Routinebed/rest time, food/water visits, door waiting, zone transitions
Comfortposition changes, scratching-like motion, restless movement, night disruption
Mobilitymovement variability, reduced activity, difficulty-style behavior prompts
Communicationdoor-focused behavior, attention-seeking score, repeated transitions

Recommended placement

Place the camera high, angled downward.

A high corner or shelf works better than eye level. The ideal view shows floor movement, the senior’s main activity area, and dog zones such as door, bed, and food/water corner.

  • Height around 1.8-2.3 m
  • Downward angle around 30-45 degrees
  • Good light for reliable local analysis
  • No direct view into unnecessary private areas

Built for calm oversight

Private by design, useful by pattern.

The system helps spot changes in everyday movement and behavior while keeping camera footage on the device where it belongs.
