Research in this area is in the developmental stage at this moment, yet conclusions have already been reached about what genes may be responsible for a certain range of mental disorders. In the case of clinical diagnosis, DNA analysis can provide valuable clues that can state possible but not absolute predispositions. That needs further verification based on anamnesis and the results of the current observations within therapy.

Another case related to mental health where DNA analysis may be helpful is in the predisposition of responsiveness to certain antidepressants, which could eliminate possible unwanted side effects. It’s called a pharmacogenetic test.

Pharmacogenomics is the study of the role of the genome in drug response. Its name reflects its combination of pharmacology and genomics. Pharmacogenomics analyzes how an individual’s genetic makeup affects their response to drugs.
