Privacy-first monitoring, held close to the device

PainTrace is designed around local-first analysis, minimal data movement, clear retention limits, and user control over stored captures and exported reports. Last updated: May 21, 2026.

Information processed

PainTrace may process selfie photos, short video captures, optional phrase recordings, structured response tasks, capture quality metrics, and local baseline information when the user chooses to use those features.

Purpose

Information is used to support local baseline comparison, capture guidance, confidence-aware similarity review, and non-diagnostic informational reports.

Local-first design

The app is designed without a cloud backend in v1. Processing and storage are intended to remain on the user’s device unless the user chooses to export information.

Data retention

How long data is kept

PainTrace does not operate a cloud backend in v1, so routine app data is retained locally on the user’s device according to the controls below.

Local check-in data

Feature vectors, analysis results, confidence scores, quality warnings, structured tags, and history entries are stored only on the user’s device until the user deletes an individual capture, deletes all app data, or uninstalls PainTrace.

Raw photos, videos, and audio

Raw media storage is optional. If enabled, raw media remains on the device until the user deletes it, uninstalls the app, or an enabled auto-delete period removes it. Available auto-delete periods are 7, 30, or 90 days. If raw media storage is disabled, PainTrace is intended to retain only derived local features and results after processing.

Exports and reference data

PDF, JSON, and CSV exports remain wherever the user saves them until the user deletes them outside the app. Bundled reference datasets remain with the app installation. Imported reference datasets remain locally until the user clears, replaces, deletes app data, or uninstalls the app.

No server retention in v1

PainTrace does not upload routine captures, feature vectors, reports, or task results to a PainTrace server in v1. Because there is no routine server upload, PainTrace does not retain this app data on a remote server.

Device backup

The Android app is configured with app backup disabled. Users should still review their device, operating system, and export-folder settings because files exported outside the app may be handled by the user’s chosen storage or backup provider.

Support messages

If a user contacts support by email or through an external website, those messages may be retained only as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce applicable terms.

Medical disclaimer

PainTrace is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Seek urgent medical care for sudden facial drooping, trouble breathing, severe swelling, severe headache, chest pain, or other emergency symptoms.

Children

PainTrace is not intended for unsupervised use by children. Where children or vulnerable people are involved, appropriate adult oversight and applicable consent requirements should be followed.
